First report of leaf spot on oil palm caused by Phyllosticta capitalensis in Malaysia
Plant Disease 104 (1), 288-288
Abstract: During 2018, oil palms (Elaeis guineensis) grown in Malaysia were observed with symptoms of irregular leaf spots with gray centers, dark brown edges, and chlorotic halos. The disease incidence among > 1,000 oil palms was estimated to be approximately 20%. The fungus Phyllosticta capitalensis was isolated from the diseased plants. The identification was based on morphological characteristics and DNA sequence analysis. Pathogenicity of the isolates was demonstrated by inoculation and re-isolation.
